Characters include spaces and line breaks; the second character total excludes every whitespace character. A word is a run of Unicode letters or numbers and may contain an internal apostrophe, hyphen, or underscore. Paragraphs are groups separated by a blank line, while lines follow the actual line breaks in the input. Reading time rounds up from 225 words per minute.
Use the character totals for form limits, search snippets, captions, and short posts. Word, paragraph, and reading-time estimates help compare drafts or plan a presentation, but they are not quality scores. Copy summary creates a plain-text report you can attach to an editorial note without copying the draft itself.
Counting runs locally in this browser tab. The tool does not upload, log, or send the draft to a server. The summary contains counts rather than the original text, but review it before sharing if even document length or structure is sensitive in your context.
Sentence detection uses punctuation followed by whitespace or the end of the text, so abbreviations, decimals, code, and headings can skew it. The word rule is Unicode-aware but cannot segment every language that normally omits spaces. Reading time assumes steady prose at 225 words per minute and does not account for diagrams, code, or reading difficulty.
